Saint Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church
Aiken, South CarolinaSaint Mary Help of Christians is a new Church recently completed for the Catholic Diocese of Charleston on an urban site in Aiken, South Carolina to address the needs of this growing Parish. The new Church expands the Parish’s existing downtown campus of a school, gymnasium, and the Parish’s first two Church buildings, which will remain in use for daily mass, weddings, and funerals. Drawing inspiration from the great number of fine buildings in Aiken, Renaissance architecture, and the churches of the very early Christian period, McCrery Architects have built a traditional cruciform Church offset from the street and fronted by an atrium garden, colonnade, and flanking ancillary buildings that house meeting rooms and rest rooms. As testament to the success of the project, Phase II of McCrery Architects’ Master-Plan was recently completed with Construction of a Bell Tower and South Wing Building.
