Sacred Heart of Jesus Chapel - Saint Joseph Cathedral

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Designed and built under the direction of Bishop Robert J. Carlson, this newly built chapel is situated within an existing building that was original to the Cathedral complex and was the former site of 3 sacristies. Part of an overall Cathedral Masterplan, this chapel provides the setting for daily Mass and for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Everything shown is entirely new, conceived within the tradition of the unification of art and architecture in service to the Church. Relevant to the Martyrs of La Florida Project, here the strong architecture provides appropriate scale to the Chapel while serving as the framework for Icons, oil paintings, sculpture, wrought iron and more. All these culminate in a result far greater than the sum of the parts.
