Holy Cross Catholic Church

Rumson, New Jersey

Major addition to a small, historic, wooden, carpenter Gothic Church to allow seating for more than 800 Faithful. The design for the Church maintains the volumes of the Church by extending the existing nave and side aisles and adding transepts. The interior is inspired by the original but marks a great improvement to the beauty and nobility of the interiors. The Church is also designed in response to tight zoning constraints, prevailing covenants, and agreements with the several neighboring historic properties. The one constant was an insistence on achieving beauty both inside and out. The new site master plan reorganizes the property and makes use of the main approach to the Church from the parking lot by including a new Marian Garden completed by a pergola that establishes the shape of the garden while screening the parking.
