Saint Mary of Sorrows

Fairfax, Virginia

To support the needs of this rapidly growing community, McCrery Architects has designed a 1,100 seat church on a site adjacent to the existing parish facilities. To integrate with the surrounding community, the new church takes its design cues from the historic colonial buildings of Fairfax County, Virginia while at the same time serves the needs of the parish by being unmistakable as a Catholic Church.

The church is cruciform in shape with a prominent Rose Window on the Main Facade. The interior will be defined by a series of round arches with very large clerestory windows that result in a spacious, light-filled Nave, oriented toward a large sanctuary, clearly identifiable as the most sacred space in the church by its 7 stained glass windows depicting the 7 Sorrows of Our Lady.

The church is under construction now with dedication expected in Summer 2020.
