Saint Thomas Aquinas Chapel and Newman Center
University of Nebraska, Lincoln NebraskaThis building for Catholic students and Newman Center Staff is situated on an urban site. It was critical that it harmonize with the existing context while at the same time be an easily identifiable Catholic building neighboring the university. This was achieved by using massing of the structure to express a Cruciform Plan with a Crossing Drum and complementing adjacent buildings. The chapel includes a bell tower that is visible from a distance and now forms an integral part of the Lincoln skyline. The project used red brick with a combination of both Romanesque and Gothic elements to create something distinctly Catholic but appropriately American in style.
